Mandy Arens
Assembly Water, Parks and Wildlife Committee

Mandy received a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree and a MVPH from UC Davis, as well as a PhD in Comparative Pathology from UC Davis. She earned a BA in Biology at UC Santa Cruz. Mandy is currently a Program Manager at the Western Institute for Food Safety & Security at UC Davis.

Larry Baskett
Senate Office of Research

Larry received a SM in Aeronautics and Astronautics from MIT and a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford. Larry was most recently a senior mechanical engineer with Sparkfactor Design, a product design firm based in Palo Alto, working under contract with Apple Inc. Larry is currently an engineer with Cisco Meraki.

Erika Bustamante
Office of Assemblymember Alejo

Erika received a PhD in Developmental Biology from Stanford University and a BS in Molecular, Cell and Developmental Biology from UCLA. Erika now serves as Director of State Government Relations for Stanford University.

Le Ondra Clark Harvey
Senate Business, Professions and Economic Development Committee and Office of Senator Price

Le Ondra received a PhD in Counseling Psychology and a MS in Counseling from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a BA in Psychology, African American Studies, Quantitative Research from Cal Poly Pomona. She completed a predoctoral clinical internship at the University of Southern California and a postdoctoral fellowship at UCLA. Le Ondra currently serves as Director of Policy and Legislative Affairs at the California Council of Community Behavioral Health Agencies.

Stephen Francis
Office of Assemblymember Perea

Stephen received a PhD in Cell Biology from Yale University and a ScB in Neuroscience from Brown University. He completed his PhD dissertation research with Genentech Research Oncology in South San Francisco. Stephen is currently a Legislative Analyst with the Congressional Research Service at the Library of Congress in Washington DC.

Matt Holland
Office of Assemblymember Mitchell

Matt received a PhD in Population Biology from UC Davis and an AB with honors in Biology from Cornell University. Matt now serves as Program Manager for the Bay-Delta Section at the California State Water Resources Control Board.

Dharia McGrew
Assembly Environmental Safety & Toxic Materials Committee and the office of Assembly Member Wieckowski

Dharia received a PhD from Brandeis University in Molecular Biology, and a BA in Biology from Mount Holyoke College. Dharia is currently a Senior Policy Analyst with the California Dental Association.

Rebecca Newhouse
Senate Environmental Quality Committee

Rebecca received a PhD from UC Santa Cruz in Physical Chemistry and a BS in Biochemistry from Western Washington University. Rebecca is currently a Physical Scientist with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Region 9 Air Division in San Francisco.

Alena Pribyl Rinke
Senate Natural Resources and Water Committee

Alena received a PhD in Fisheries Science from Oregon State University, a MA in Biology from the University of Colorado at Boulder, and graduated with honors in Biology from Oregon State. She was a National Research Council Postdoctoral Fellow at the NOAA Southwest Fisheries Science Center. Alena is currently a Science Communicator for Microba, a gut microbiome sequencing startup in Queensland, Australia.

Ben Rubin
Senate Health Committee

Ben received a PhD in Neurobiology from Duke University and a BA in Biology and Psychology from Cornell University. He undertook postdoctoral studies at Caltech and Brandeis University. Ben is currently the Science Officer for the California Initiative for the Advancement of Precision Medicine at UC San Francisco.
